Description of Learning Activity This activity is an online game that helps students practice fluency and accuracy of multiple operation skills (using a combination addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.) Students can adjust the level and have a fact grid below for support. Students can also set time limit. This site is great review before beginning double and triple digit addition and subtraction. 1. Learning Activity Types
This online game provides direct, individual support to students who are struggling with math fact fluency and accuracy. NCTM Standards
Proficiency Strands
The skill being represented is basic and advanced math operation skills for both fluency and accuracy practice and mastery. It is done in a drill and practice format with interactive graphic and game play. It also provides a hidden graphic chart for support if the student needs it. 4. What role does technology play? The online game adapts as students struggle or succeed in practicing their fluency of operation skills. The advantage to this is students are able to feel successful no matter their skill level. Students are also lead to other games on the Sheppard site on other skills as students master these. One disadvantage to this game is that the chart can be a bit complicated and not easily used. Also it does not save the student's score or have the ability for teacher input. Affordances of Technology for Supporting Learning
This would most likely be an individual activity but could be adapted for large/small group on a SMARTboard or pairs on a laptop. 6. What do teachers and learners need to know? Both teachers and students need to know how to use flash player games. Students need to know how to use arrow keys on their laptop or device. |
